Laurie is the administrative assistant in the Office of Aboriginal Initiatives. She has been with WLU for 12 years as an assistant for many different areas across campus, giving her a broad understanding of the university as a whole. Please feel free to contact by Email any time.

She has extensive background in customer service as well as graphic design, painting, and making Aboriginal regalia. She is an avid beader and moccasin-maker, running regalia workshops for families in the tri-city area for the past 10 years.

Laurie has been active in the local Aboriginal Community for the past 16 years, serving as on the Board of Directors for the Kitchener-Waterloo Urban Native Wigwam Project and Anishnabeg Outreach in various capacities. She has also been actively involved in fundraising for northern communites such as K.I. and Attawapiskat as well as Shannen's Dream.

Laurie is a hand-drum carrier and has been singing with the local lady drummers Mino Ode Kwewak N'Gamawak for 12 years. She is also a traditional dancer and has been dancing for 15 years encouraging local women and children to reclaim their identity through crafts, singing, and dancing.

She is currently a part-time student pursuing her undergrad degree in Anthropology. Her research interests include socio-cultural anthropology, current Aboriginal issues, Aboriginal education in urban and rural settings, and ancient Indigenous cultures.
