Dr. Kelly was Dean of the Telfer School of Management from 2000-2010. During this time, the School achieved the “triple crown” of international accreditations, received the largest naming endowment ever for a Canadian business school, built a new building, established a vibrant career centre and saw a dramatic increase in research productivity and funding and heightened alumni and community engagement. In addition to its Ottawa Advisory Board, the School also established boards in Montreal, Toronto, Vancouver, Paris and Silicon Valley California.

Dr. Kelly’s research has focused on the management of global innovation systems, R&D alliances and the competitive strategies of technology-based firms. He has authored several dozen monographs, articles and studies and produced the video Building Successful Strategic Alliances. His research on alliances, in cooperation with Ivey Professor Jean-Louis Schaan, has been published by the Stanford Research Institute (SRI), the Journal of Small Business Strategy and the Journal of R&D Management. He and Professor Schaan also co-authored the 4-part case series Strategic Alliances that Work produced by Ivey Publishing and Cases in Alliance Management published by Sage Publishing.

Dr. Kelly has advised technology companies around the world on foreign investment strategies, alliance management and financing international expansions. Dr. Kelly was previously Chairman of the Six Countries Program, a European research network on innovation and technology policy. He also served on the Advisory Board of the Silicon Valley Roundtable in California and was a member of its annual “Valley Business and Economic Forecast” panel. He is past President and Executive Board Member of the Canadian Federation of Business School Deans and also served on the Board of Governors of Beta Gamma Sigma, the international honour society for business schools. He has also served on the boards of several public and private sector organizations. He was a member of the Advisory Board on Commercialization of the Canadian Institute for Health Research and a former Co-chair of I-Canada Alliance promoting Iglobal leadership through ultrafast communications. He is currently a member of le Conseil d'Administration of the Reims Management School (RMS) in Reims, France. During his 2010-2012 sabbatical he was an Executive in Residence with the Canadian Advanced Technology Alliance (CATA).
