Academic BackgroundMusBacPerf (Toronto): Double Bass
George Greer received a BMus in Performance from the University of Toronto in 1971. He was principal double bass with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra for six years and and played with the London Symphony Orchestra ( London, England ). In Canada he has been with the Canadian Opera Company, the National Ballet of Canada, Hamilton Philharmonic, Mainly Mozart and principal bass with the Stratford Festival Orchestra.
For many years George has been associate
principal bass with the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony Orchestra and
principal double bass with Sinfonia Mississauga and the Elora Festival
Orchestra. During these years George has often performed as principal double
bass with the Toronto Mendelsohn Choir Orchestra.
George has performed solo double bass recitals in Waterloo,
Barrie, Orillia and other venues. He recorded on CD a quartet entitled
Two By Four by Waterloo composer Leonard Enns. and was solo double bass on a CD
featuring flutist Susan Hoeppner with the Canadian Chamber Ensemble. conductor
George lives in Waterloo and is the owner of an instrument made by F. Alberti, mid 1700's Milan, Italy.
