Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

The Laurier English and Academic Foundation (LEAF) program is an academic English program for future Laurier students. If you don’t meet Laurier’s English language proficiency requirements, the LEAF program can help.
The LEAF program is accredited by Languages Canada.
The LEAF Program is offered at Laurier’s Brantford campus, a small and friendly campus located in the heart of downtown Brantford. The campus is integrated into the downtown core of the city, giving you the opportunity to practice your English by interacting with locals in addition to other university students.
We offer four terms every year:
Before you start the LEAF program, submit your most recent IELTS or TOEFL score to leaf@wlu.ca to determine which of our 5 levels you will start in.

Note: All accepted tests of English proficiency may be used to determine your LEAF program level. Email the LEAF program office at leaf@wlu.ca to see what level you may qualify for based on another test of English proficiency.
When you successfully complete a level of the LEAF program, you will progress to the next level. When you successfully finish level 5, which includes completing a course for credit that can be used towards your degree program at Laurier, you have met Laurier’s English proficiency requirements.
There are two ways to begin your LEAF program studies at Laurier, which vary depending on your academic goals.
To be eligible for the LEAF program, you must have a minimum IELTS score of 5.0 or equivalent. Our English proficiency page provides you with a list of accepted English testing services.
If you are eligible for both the LEAF program and your academic program, you will receive an offer of admission with a condition to complete the LEAF program. After you complete the LEAF program, you can enrol in your academic program.
Use the Undergraduate Admissions website for instructions on how to apply.
If you wish to apply to the LEAF program only and not to undergraduate studies, complete the steps below. In order to receive an offer of admission to the LEAF program, we require a current assessment of your English proficiency, which must be uploaded with your application form.
Due to the unfolding situation regarding COVID-19, the 2020 fall LEAF program, including all classes, assessment and exams, will be delivered virtually. In-person instruction is currently discontinued. Laurier will continue to support students throughout the fall term. For the latest updates, refer to our coronavirus information page.
