Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

We encourage all students to arrive at least one day before the LEAF term starts to take care of tasks related to arriving in a new country. There are many small – and some not so small – things that you need to do as soon as you arrive, such as opening a bank account, getting a cell phone, finding your way around campus, and communicating with your family or friends to let them know you have arrived safely.

On the first day of the LEAF Program term, you will complete a proficiency measure to help us understand your strengths and weaknesses in English. After the exam, you will take part in an orientation session organized by the LEAF program to give you helpful information about your classes, Laurier, and life in Canada. You will receive helpful information and advice that will help you become familiar with your new environment, so you are ready to start LEAF classes.

Let Us Know Your Travel Plans

Please use the LEAF Program Student Arrival Form to let us know when and how you are going to be arriving.

You are also required to arrange your own transportation from the airport to Laurier. There are several different transportation options to get to the city of Brantford. Make sure you have enough case to cover the fare, or that you have a credit card that works in Canada.

The bus station in Brantford is a short walk from the student residences and the train station is 1km from campus. For local transportation information and a city map, visit the City of Brantford website.

Laurier is planning a return to campus for the fall 2021 term, with a mix of remote, hybrid and in-person learning as well as a robust set of student services and activities. For the latest updates, refer to our coronavirus information page.

For the fall 2021 term, all classes, assessments and exams in the LEAF program will be delivered virtually. This provides students with the option of studying in the LEAF program at Laurier or from home.

LEAF program students who travel to Laurier for the fall term will have the opportunity to engage in in-person activities and events, as well as the option to live in residence.

All LEAF program students will have access to student services that will support their academic experience and success.
