Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Headstart is your first official half-day as a Golden Hawk before your classes begin in September. It's designed to ease your transition to university by providing specialized information sessions that cover a wide variety of topics that can act as your foundation for academic success.

If you have received an offer of admission to Laurier, we strongly encourage you to participate in Headstart to become familiar with the services and supports at our campus, and to ensure that you are registered in the correct courses before classes begin in September.

During your Headstart session you will:

  • Get individualized assistance in picking your classes and creating your academic timetable.
  • Take a campus and residence tour.
  • Learn about campus services and resources that can help you succeed in university.
  • Learn important academic dates and deadlines.
  • Get a snapshot of a typical university lecture.
  • Meet other incoming students and chat with senior students about their experience at Laurier.

Parents and guests are welcome to attend, and will participate in a special parent transition program that provides an overview of what students experience in their first year and how they can support their student. There will also be informational sessions on residence life, meal plans, financial aid, and more.

Laurier Brantford is proud of its student-centered campus, and therefore our sessions are capped to a small number of participants to provide individualized assistance for every student registered. Spaces fill up quickly, so register early.

We are hosting morning, afternoon, evening, and weekend sessions throughout June, July and August to best serve your needs. The cost of Headstart is $10 per student, which includes parking and program materials.

Registration will open in May 2017.

Note: While Headstart offers sessions to assist you in your course selection and registration, you should not wait until you attend Headstart to begin signing up for your courses.
