Join us at Laurier

Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hey there!

My name is Emily Weatherhead and I am a fourth-year Psychology Student with the Research Specialization at Wilfrid Laurier University! I am so excited that you’re thinking about making Laurier your home; there’s absolutely no where else I could imagine myself. Coming to university is a huge adjustment wherever you go, but if there’s one thing I can say about Laurier it’s that we love our first year students. There are a ton of different resources in place for you, both throughout Orientation Week and throughout the year, that really make sure you can always get the support you need!

I always say that I chose Laurier to follow my passion, but this is where I ended up finding it. I started out as a piano major in the Music program in the hopes of pursuing Music Therapy, but realised that I loved my psychology courses so much that I wanted to major in Psychology instead. I made my switch in the summer of my second year, and now I am heavily involved in the Psychology Department, doing research in Developmental and Community Psychology! I hope to become a child and family therapist one day, and Laurier’s community-oriented approach has already given me a ton of real world experience right here in Waterloo.

Outside of my involvement with research, I have been heavily involved with student leadership on this campus! I was a House Council Arts representative in my first year, an off-campus don in my second year, and a House Council advisor in my third year! (Ask your dons about House Council – it’s an amazing way to get involved in your first year.) I am also a C-League Intramural Dodgeball Champion, so I consider myself to be a pretty impressive athlete as well. There are a million ways to get involved on this campus, so make sure that you find something that you’ll fall in love with too.

I cannot wait to meet you, and I hope that you can find your passion here at Laurier too.
