Join us at Laurier

Being a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.

Hey future Golden Hawks! My name is Alexa Kelly and I am from a very small town outside of Whitby, Ontario. I am a third-year Communication Studies student with an Applied Digital Option here at Laurier.

When people say “Laurier has a close-knit feel” or “Laurier is my second home,” they are not kidding. When I was a prospective first-year student like you, the thought of university scared me. My fear of university changed when I took a tour and was able to see what life as a Golden Hawk was really like. In that moment, I knew Laurier was the university for me and I am glad I’m able to call it my "home away from home."

Laurier has so much to offer anyone and everyone! Laurier offers numerous clubs, recreational teams, sports teams and more. In my first year, I tried to get involved in as many aspects of school as I could and was able to meet so many new people along the way. I joined my residence House Council team as a floor representative and joined the Communications Students Association, which offered insight into what my program had to offer, meet-and-greets with professors in the Communications program, and more. I am also a Graphic Design Assistant for Laurier’s Athletics and Recreation department, which allows me to gain experience within my field of study and do what I love. Without a doubt, Laurier can offer something for you, too!

Juggling academics, extracurricular activities, part-time work and a social life can be tough, but Laurier is definitely able to help you transition and make it achievable. If you have any questions about how to get involved or have any other questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
