Second-Year Global Studies
Welcome to Wilfrid Laurier University!
Born in Karachi, Pakistan, I may not be an international student but I definitely am a student with deep international roots. I left Pakistan with my family at the young age of seven as we embarked on a new journey with a better education and life as our destination. While I grew up in Mississauga, stepping into our home was the equivalent of hopping on a plane and flying for thirteen hours back to Pakistan (which I end up doing almost every summer). As I step into my second year in Global Studies program, I am honoured to take on the role as a Laurier International Ambassador for the 2015/16 year.
There is no doubt that making the move into postsecondary is a big one but what is more significant is the institution you choose. There is no such thing as the wrong choice unless you pick a school that does not line up with your priorities, goals, values and ambitions. As for me, I knew if I was not only going to go to classes everyday but also live away from home, I needed a community feel, a strong extracurricular presence and opportunities to practice what I love. I found it all at Laurier and here's hoping you do too.
If you are anything like me, you want to ensure that not only are you comfortable with attending lectures and doing schoolwork but also feel comfortable with your environment. It is the best way to ensure that you make the best of and learn the most from your experiences. Laurier’s student body is one like no other; there are clubs and opportunities as diverse as the population, and various facets that will make you feel welcomed and at home, whether through the Diversity and Equity office (who I loved working with) or your academic faculty. Know that if you choose Laurier as your home away from home, we will do everything to make it nothing short of "Golden."
