I love to teach and I love to sing. I began my studies in both of these areas here at Wilfrid Laurier University, which granted me an Honours BMus in 2004. I continued my studies at l’Université de Montréal (DMus, 2010) and then at the Schola Cantorum in Basel, Switzerland (Specialized Master in Early Music Performance, 2012).
I have had the privilege to study with a host of magnificent teachers (like Daniel Lichti, Jan Simons, Mark Pedrotti, Gerd Türk, Paul Esswood, Margreet Honig, and Wendy Nielsen), each of whom has made an indelible mark upon me as a teacher and singer. And I have, similarly, had the privilege to make music with a wide variety of magnificent performers, both in Canada and in Europe. I am as grateful for this wide and enriching experience as I am for the opportunity to share it with my students.
I’m passionate about contemporary music and “early music” and about what “early music” was like when it was contemporary music. I’m also passionate about rediscovering and renewing earlier repertoires and exploring the function of the music that we make in the life of our society.
I’m an avid researcher in the areas of singing technique and pedagogy, and I’m especially interested in making connections between those fields and the Alexander Technique, of which I am currently studying to become a teacher, under the guidance of Susan Sinclair in Toronto.
