Becoming a Golden Hawk means more than just cheering on our (really good) varsity teams – it means being a student who cares about your community, who works hard in the classroom, and who takes advantage of all the learning opportunities that can happen outside the classroom, too.


Rates

In addition to lesson and camp rates, there is a non-refundable registration fee. The registration fee is $50 for new students and $35 for returning students. Laurier faculty and staff can take advantage of a reduced registration fee of $20.

Instructor and Music Lessons

Rates vary by instructor and duration of music lesson. Registration includes 36 lessons across four nine-week terms, unless stated otherwise.

New students registering for the first time should contact our office for instructor placement. Returning students must submit a completed registration form, fee and term payments to their instructors by June 1 to reserve a lesson time slot.

Note: Music books are not included in the instructor rates.

Camps

Rates vary by camps and discounted rates are offered for full day camp enrolment. Contact beckettschool@wlu.ca for early bird registration discounts. 

Registration Process

Prior to registration, contact beckettschool@wlu.ca and indicate the service you wish to register for to receive the appropriate registration form. Once you receive the registration form, you will be required to complete the form and submit it along with payment in-person or by mail to:

Payment Details

Payment must be submitted in full at the time of registration. Methods of payment include cash, credit card or cheque (payable to Wilfrid Laurier University). Cheques payable to Wilfrid Laurier University must be dated as follows:

  • Current Date: Registration fee (non-refundable)
  • June 30, 2018: Term 1
  • Nov. 1, 2018: Term 2
  • Feb. 1, 2019: Term 3
  • April 1, 2019: Term 4

Note: There will be a $35 charge for non-sufficient funds or returned cheques.

Policies

School Administration Act

"A child is excused from attendance at school if he/she is absent from school for the purpose of receiving instruction in music and the period of absence does not exceed one-half day in any week."
The School Administration Act, Section 6, Subsection 2.

Secondary School Credits

Students studying with the Royal Conservatory of Music or Conservatory Canada may be eligible to earn credits toward their Ontario Secondary School Diploma. Ask your instructor for details or contact beckettschool@wlu.ca.

School Closure

The Beckett School at Laurier will be closed in the event of severe weather when normal operation would pose a significant danger to faculty, staff and students. Wilfrid Laurier University which includes the Beckett School at Laurier may close for the morning, afternoon, evening or for the entire day. In each case the closure announcement and reopening time will be communicated to you by your teacher, on the Beckett School at Laurier phone message as well as on our website.

Missed Lesson Policy

In conformance with the guidelines of the of the Ontario Registered Music Teachers' Association, there will be no adjustment for missed lessons at any time. Lessons missed by the teacher will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time. In case of extended teacher illness, the Beckett School at Laurier will provide a replacement teacher to deliver the lessons.
