I hold a Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) in Music and History and a Master of Arts (MA) in Musicology, both from York University.
I am active as a bass and guitar teacher and I conduct research as an independent scholar. I am also a member of the International Association for the Study of Popular Music.
I believe in the importance of creative diversity, and I perform as a regular member of groups across a number of styles. I regularly perform chamber music, symphonic music, opera, jazz, pop and rock. I also perform as a singer-songwriter.
I have performed original works for symphony orchestra and small ensemble. I regularly perform original music as a founding member of The Magnetic Revelators, and as bandleader of my solo Flagship band as bassist, guitarist, pianist and vocalist.
The quality, dedication and passion of my teachers is something I am endlessly grateful for, and I feel a responsibility to pass this on to my own students. It is important to me to work with each individual student according to their personal strengths, needs and interests – helping them unlock their distinct musicality through instruction. I not only help them learn technical proficiency, I also create an opportunity for them to experience the richness and fulfilment possible through musical pursuit.
