I received my PhD in Sociology from the University of Birmingham in 2006, a PGC in Public Health from Oxford University in 2000 and my MD in medicine from the ‘Carol Davila’ University of Bucharest in 1996.
My research brings Foucaultian, feminist and psychoanalytical insights to the analysis of the contemporary liberal-capitalist governing apparatuses that shape truth, identity and enjoyment.
My past work has been focusing on uncovering the, at times repressed, patriarchal, heterosexist, racist and eugenicist foundational assumptions of “modern” bio-power, especially in the field of public health.
My current project, “Enjoyment, Submission and Ignorance in Modern Fantasy,” argues that the intractability of the current power/knowledge regime stems from the bourgeois subject’s intimate investment in the jouissance this regime makes possible, and that the effect of this investment is something akin to a “will-to-not-know.”
I am willing to supervise graduate students in the areas of biopolitics, governmentality, poststructuralist feminism and psychoanalytical analyses of ideology.
