Sustainability is a universal phenomenon of economic, ecological, and social importance and Laurier's Sustainability Office is committed to environmental awareness and action on campus and beyond.

Through engagement, projects, and programming, the goal of the office is to create a culture where sustainability is integrated into daily operations. The Office coordinates sustainable practices within construction, conservation, energy, food, procurement, transportation, waste, and water through education, facilities management, and partnerships.

Green Tip:

Tim Horton’s is located in the King, Peters, and Science Building and it is important to remember that the empty beverage cups are recyclable in the paper stream and the lids are recyclable in the plastics stream.

Also, if you bring your own mug, you will receive a $0.10 discount.

Greasy pizza boxes can go in Laurier's compost bins and the City's green bin.

Sustainability Champion:

Conservation_Icons_small.jpgShailyn Drukis is a second year environmental student at Wilfrid Laurier. Inspired by her experiences out in nature, she takes every opportunity to learn about the biodiversity that surrounds her, and to educate others about it. As an active member of the KW Field Naturalist, Shailyn partakes in various field outings gaining further knowledge of Southern Ontario species and facilitates ecological-systems based educational programs for youth age 7-12 such as pond studies, identification workshops and guided hikes.

For the past three years Shailyn has been selected to be one of eighteen members on the National Youth Leadership Council for the Jane Goodall Institute of Canada and has been elected by her peers for the second year to be the Canadian Ambassador on the United States National Youth Leadership Council for the Jane Goodall Institute. These councils have given her the opportunity to develop national campaigns and resources, present workshops to community members, and to get involved in international environmental policy making.

In 2010, Shailyn represented Canada and Global Youth at the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) in Japan. Accomplished through their hard work at the conference, global youth have secured a focal at the CBD next year in India. Shailyn has recently received an invitation to attend the next CBD in India next October and has already begun working with youth from around the world to prepare for their involvement at the negotiation meetings and to organize a youth side event.
