Mr. Newell, Laurier Outstanding Business Leader of 2001, has been Chairman of the Board of Syncrude since May 1994 and CEO of Syncrude Canada Ltd. since August 1989. Under Mr. Newell’s direction Syncrude has become the nation’s largest single source of crude oil and the world’s largest producer of oil from oil sands.
