4th Year Biology

Kingston, Jamaica

Hi future Golden Hawks! My name is Shawnie Fitt and I am a 4th year Biology major with the Management option. I have had the amazing privilege to grow up and live in Kingston, Jamaica. Your next question must be how did I end up at Laurier from Jamaica? I was very involved in my high school and wanted to go to a school where I felt I would be able to stay very involved and where I knew my opinion mattered. My Director at the time was Canadian and looked at me one day and said 'you need to go to Laurier'. After looking into it and realizing how many opportunities there were I applied and was accepted.

Without ever visiting the school I arrived on move in day and immediately knew this would be my new home. Laurier has been an amazing experience for me, the people are so welcoming and friendly and the opportunities available are endless. I started out first year as the President of my House Council and had the amazing experience to volunteer as a Go Team member for O-week.

One might think I am crazy for leaving my family and friends in Jamaica to go to school in Canada, but I can promise you if I feel at home then anyone can feel at home at Laurier. Laurier is the experience of a lifetime. I hope to have the opportunity to share with you what makes this school such an amazing place to be.
