Susie Turner
Hello! My name is Susie and I am a third year
Global Studies student, pursuing minors in both Anthropology and Environmental
studies (yes, it's a bit of a mouthful!). I come from the land of Toronto, 30
minutes North in Aurora.
For me, it was a tour of the
Laurier campus that confirmed my decision to come to the university, revealing
its unique close-community feel (where in one 5- minute walk across campus you
can pass by 5 friends), and uncovering the fantastic opportunity available to
really get to know your professors and fellow students.
I have always believed in becoming involved in the community and impacting positive change, and the opportunities for such involvement at Laurier and in Kitchener-Waterloo are awesome. I am part of Laurier's environmental advocacy group, EcoHawks, as an executive member, and have been involved in the group's initiatives since first year. I was also a member of my residence House Council in first year as a representative for Upgrade, a first year student leadership position. The Laurier campus is constantly buzzing with club initiatives, fundraisers and events, and the opportunities to become involved in the community outside the university are endless.
Becoming a member of the Laurier community means joining a campus in constant motion, with chances to get involved in initiatives beyond academics. I look forward to sharing my experience with you, and answering any questions you might have about how you might begin to build your own!
