HELLO and welcome to Laurier! My name is Shelby, and I am in my fourth (and final!) year of the Honours Communication Studies program.

My time at Laurier has been memorable, unforgettable and is sadly coming to a close. I can’t believe the number of opportunities I have been presented with and the amazing people I have met along the way. I have been presented with several Student Leader positions within the Athletic Complex- allowing me to pursue my passions outside of my major. I have also attended many leadership workshops, including a massive campus wide program called “You Lead”.

It feels like so long ago that I was in your position, deciding on which school to pick, trying to map out what seemed to be a complicated and difficult journey to get to my future. However, the moment I stepped onto Laurier’s campus I fell in love, and not just a little in love. I mean the overwhelming there-wasn’t-a-single-thing-I-didn’t-adore-about-the-campus kind of love! Four years later and I still feel the same way! I chose Laurier because I went to high school in Almonte, ON- a small town of just 4000 people and I didn’t feel overwhelmed on the campus. Laurier and the city of waterloo felt like home right away and I could see myself beginning my future here. Not a single day has passed where I haven’t felt like I was at home.

If you choose Laurier, from the moment you introduce yourself to your floor during move-in day to your graduation, you won’t stop making friends and you won’t stop finding new places to fit in and belong. All the best in your future, and remember; “It’s great to be a Laurier Golden Hawk!”
