KPE - External Student Awards
Alumni Gold Medals – Honours Programs
To qualify for the gold medal, a student must have:
a minimum GPA of 10.00 (A-) in the senior courses of the honours program.
a minimum cumulative GPA of 10.00 (A-).
Each faculty/school or affiliated university-college shall have one gold medal for each convocation period in which it has from 1 to 100 students receiving an honours degree, and an additional gold medal for each additional hundred undergraduate students receiving an honours degree during that convocation period. Thus, a faculty/school or affiliated university-college with 60 honours graduates in fall would be allotted one gold medal, and an undergraduate faculty/school or affiliate with 300 would receive three medals. Gold medals are awarded only to students in subject areas having at least one non-combination honours program, though the recipient may be in a combined honours program. If the subject area has both single and combined honours programs, the award is made to the student with the highest GPA in the senior courses in that subject's honours program, whether or not they are registered in a single or combined program.

KPE - Internal Student Awards
The Joan Heimbecker Award
This award is “presented annually to the graduating Wilfrid Laurier University Honours Kinesiology & Physical Education student with the highest overall 4 year academic average”.
This award is typically presented to the recipient at the post convocation gathering on graduation day (Spring).
Recipient’s name is engraved on plaque which is displayed in the KPE office reception area. WLU Bookstore Gift Certificate: Value $100.00
The CSEP Award
This award is provided by CSEP to each Canadian university with a Kinesiology (or equivalent) undergraduate program and is awarded annually to the top student in exercise physiology related courses. KP422, KP423, KP322.
The award consists of a CSEP medallion and commemorative certificate. Both of these items are presented at the post convocation gathering on graduation day (spring).
Recipient’s name is engraved on plaque which is displayed on the KPE office reception area. WLU Bookstore Gift Certificate: $100.00
Academic Excellence Award for year 1/ 2/ 3.
This award is presented to the first, second, and third year student with the highest academic achievement in years 1, 2, and 3. The recipient’s name is engraved on the plaque which is displayed in the KPE office reception area. The award is presented at the WLU Kin Kouncil Meet & Greet event in early Fall. WLU Bookstore Gift Certificate: value $100.00.
The Sandy Young Award
This award is awarded to the student who best combines achievement and enthusiasm in Canadian Sport History.
The recipient’s name is engraved on the plaque displayed in the KPE hallway. The award is presented at the WLU Kin Kouncil Meet & Greet event in early Fall. Gift certificate from the WLU Bookstore – value $100.00
The PHE Award
This award is awarded to the recipient as selected by the KPE student awards committee from applications received in the PHE web criteria. A PHE plaque and camp membership fees are provided to the recipient. The award is presented at the WLU Kin Kouncil Meet & Greet event in early Fall. The recipient’s name is engraved on the plaque displayed in the KPE hallway. See PHE weblink here for more details.
