As part of the Tri-University Program in Graduate History (Laurier, Waterloo and Guelph), doctoral students in History complete two minor field seminars and write a comprehensive qualifying exam in the major field of their choice, and complete a professional development seminar. They then write a dissertation under the supervision of a Laurier historian and a Tri-University committee.

September January 15 for first consideration; applications will be accepted until the program is full.


Eligible students admitted to study on a full-time basis for each year of study are given a competitive funding package.

Guaranteed minimum financial support: $19,000

Such support may be made up of:

  • teaching assistantships,
  • internal and/or external scholarship awards,
  • research assistantships.
