Through an applied focus at the local scale, the Master of Arts (MA) program in Social Justice and Community Engagement (SJCE) is committed to engaged scholarship informed by critical social justice/environmental justice theories and approaches. The MA in SJCE fosters studentsí abilities to investigate and understand these root causes and to engage in the active promotion of social and environmental justice principles and the resolution of community-level injustices. Through course work, a community placement and an MRP students will develop the skills that facilitate community capacity development, local-level innovation, sustainability and democratic renewal.

Prerequisite
 Minimum Standing
Honours BA from a humanities, social science, natural science or interdisciplinary program, and a background in the concepts of social and environmental justice.  B

Funding

Eligible students admitted to study on a full-time basis for each year of study are given a competitive funding package.

Guaranteed minimum financial support: $13,000

Such support may be made up of:

  • teaching assistantships,
  • internal and/or external scholarship awards,
  • research assistantships.

Major award holders (OGS, CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) are eligible for the Dean's Scholarship, valued at up to $7,500.

Tuition is charged each term. Miscellaneous fees may be charged where applicable.
