Electives

Students can specialize or diversify through their choice of electives and Independent Directed Studies.

The International Study Trip, ESSAM and/or AISAM and/or IED may be completed in lieu of one or two electives.

Independent Directed Studies can be completed in lieu of one or two electives.
A Major Research Paper can be completed in lieu of three electives.
An individual student completes studies in a particular area of interest with the guidance of a faculty member.

Major Research Project
An individual research paper, that includes defining a research problem, completing the research and providing a solution to the problem. The paper must be defended in an oral defense examination.

Faculty Research interests can be found at Faculty Research/Publications , or contact us and we will put you in touch with a faculty member who has a similar research interest to you.

Waterloo Electives

Electives are offered during the day (for the convenience of Full-Time students) and during the evening (for the convenience of Part-Time students); however students can take advantage of any electives that fit with their individual timetable. As the Full-Time students complete core subjects in the Fall term, less electives are offered in that semester.

Toronto Selected Electives

Students in the MBA with CMA Option can take advantage of two selected electives, while the rest of the program courses are required as part of the CMA designation.

Elective courses are designed based upon a survey of the class interests. A diverse and broad range of subject topics are initially offered, from which students indicate preferences. The result is a dynamic blend of topics that are relevant and current to today's business environment.

Students are welcome to take advantage of selected elective courses that are offered to other classes - this results in quite a lot of choice each semester, especially if students take advantage of the Independent Study Projects.

Selected electives in the past have included:

• E-Business Supply Chain Management • International Marketing Strategy
• Entrepreneurial Finance • Management of E-Business Environment
• Communication in a Managerial Context • Management of New Technology
• Organizational Dynamics and Change • Human Resource Management
• Managing Competitive Intelligence • Accounting Theory and Advanced Financial Reporting
