Laurier Arts Scholars
“The vital mission of a Faculty of Arts is to engage the next generation in the critical spirit, intellectual and creative attainments, and scholarly methods of our past, as well as new and emerging variations upon those academic traditions.”
— Faculty of Arts Teaching Scholar Award Description
The Laurier Arts Scholars is a community of high-acheiving students who are offered an innovative, challenging, and rewarding educational experience. This unique program pairs high achieving students (90+ high school average) with a faculty mentor throughout their Laurier career. The faculty mentor will work to develop an academic program tailored to each Arts Scholar with an emphasis on advanced learning and research. Laurier Arts Scholars will also have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in developing a range of activities--such as special lectures, colloquia, and field trips--designed to extend the learning process beyond the classroom. The group also hosts several academic, international, and cultural programs and events that showcase the interdisciplinary nature of the Arts.
Members of the Laurier Arts Scholars are normally new first year students with have achieved a 90%+ high school average when they apply. Students with a high school average of 85‐89% at time of application can also apply, and will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the Faculty Mentor. Continuing eligibility will depend upon (1) a willingness to meet regularly with the Faculty Mentor and 2) a GPA of 10.0 or more at the end of each academic term. Other students at any year level can also be considered for membership on a case-by-case basis if they also meet these two requirements. These students are welcome to e-mail the Faculty Mentor for more information on becoming a Laurier Arts Scholar.
The next general meeting of the Laurier Arts Scholars will be held from 4:00-5:30pm on April 4, 2013 in BA211. At this meeting, a member from student awards will discuss scholarship and award possibilities. Previous presentations have included co-op, study abroad, career development services, and academic services and resources. Even if you have not been to a meeting yet, there is still time to be part of the group if you meet the eligibility requirements outlined above. We look forward to seeing you at our next meeting and are excited to be a part of your academic experience at Laurier!

Encourages and promotes high standards throughout the academic experience in the Faculty of Arts;
-
Provides opportunities for leadership, fellowship, and professional development;
-
Organizes and encourages academic events and campaigns that promote the value of the arts;
-
Fosters an overall appreciation for the significance of the arts in higher education and day-to-day life.
