Writing workshops
Workshops are open to all students, both undergraduate and graduate. Attending 6 workshops this year is needed for you to get a Writing Certificate noted on your Co-curricular Record (see below).
Tuesday workshops run from 5:30 - 6:50 pm. No sign up is required -- just show up!
Friday workshops run from 1:00 - 2:20 pm. Sign-up is REQUIRED here.
Our university-wide workshops are presented in two series. See the FULL SCHEDULE HERE.
Series A - Writing in university: context counts
This series is focused on examining academic conventions -- expectations about writing and texts -- that apply at university and how these expectations may differ across the disciplines. In these workshops we identify many of these conventions and explore ways of responding effectively.
Series B - Writing - textual basics and details
This series focuses on the building blocks of academic assignments: strong paragraphs and sentences. These are the important "micro" elements that are often not taught directly and we show you how organization and grammar can be used to make your written texts more effective.
See the links for dates, times and rooms of each individual workshop.
DID YOU KNOW? You can get a Writing Certificate on your Laurier Co-curricular Record
If you attend 6 workshops over the 2012-13 academic year and participate in one 50-minute tutoring session devoted to one of your current writing assignments, you can receive acknowledgement of your writing development on your Co-curricular Record. The writing workshops must consist of a combination of different fall and winter term sessions. Please contact the Writing Centre if you have questions.
Please let us know your feedback after you attend our workshops by using our online form. You can also suggest an idea for a new workshop if we haven't addressed a topic that interests you.
