WAC & WID
Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) is an approach to writing that focuses on writing to learn; in other words, it assumes students learn subject matter through writing. In WAC, writing activities and writing instruction are embedded into the course curriculum. In this way, writing is viewed as important to learning in all subject areas, and all instructors are valued as writing instructors.

Writing in the Disciplines (WID) is often considered synonymous with WAC, though a distinguishing feature is that in the WID approach, the specific ways that writing occurs within each discipline are highlighted, most often by recognizing discipline-specific genres or conventions. Collaboration between instructors located in the discipline and writing instructors often guides students in learning about academic and disciplinary conventions. In WID, discipline experts and writing experts share their perspectives so students learn to analyse and apply appropriate conventions in their own writing activities.
