Hello everyone!

I’m Kyle Gerber, and I am a third-year Honours English Major foolishly pursuing a minor in both history and philosophy. I hope to teach high school English someday, but am keeping the door of opportunity open as there are many other fields in which I’d enjoy working. Most of my scholarly attention to date has been focused on early British literature, narrative forms, and literary criticism.  I enjoy the works of authors such as R.L. Stevenson, Jules Verne, James Joyce, and the Romantic Poets who were very creative and provided such a wonderfully lyrical link to the past. More recently I’ve been exposed to authors like, and including, Al Purdy, Michael Ondaatje, and Paul Vermeersch, through whom I’ve gained a greater appreciation for contemporary writing and style.

I am excited to be treading new ground in my University experience as I begin work at the Writing Centre. It is a great honour to be surrounded by such great writers and co-workers, and I’m excited about developing my own skills and methodologies as I tutor my peers. When I don’t have my nose stuck in the books, I can usually be found kicking back with my friends, listening to music, honing my chops on my mandolin, or arranging music for my bluegrass band, Rescue Junction.
