Minimum Guaranteed Funding for PhD Students
Doctoral Student Funding
The Faculty of Graduate Studies (FGS) at Wilfrid Laurier University offers a Minimum Guaranteed Funding policy for all doctoral students admitted after September 2006.
This funding guarantee will ensure that doctoral students receive a minimum of $19,000 in financial support for four years of doctoral-level study.
The MGF package may come from a variety of sources including:
- internal awards
- external awards
- teaching assistantships
- research assistantships
FSW Teaching/Research Assistantships
With regard to assistantships, the normal commitment to students is two teaching or research assistantships per year (valued at $7000 each for 130 hours/term) for four years. The MGF scheme assumes continuous registration over four years and students are expected to hold two assistantships in each of their first four years of study.
WLU Graduate Scholarship
All students who are offered full-time admission to a graduate program at Laurier are automatically considered for a Laurier Graduate Scholarship. Funding will continue in year two, three and four conditional upon grades and an application for OGS and SSHRC.
