Welcome from the Dean
The Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work (FSW) offers social work programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. The MSW program has three fields of study: Individuals, Families, and Groups; Community, Policy, Planning, and Organizations; and Aboriginal Wholistic Healing. The PhD program provides students with opportunities for advanced scholarship and professional growth in two fields of study: Studies in Social Work Practice, and Critical Social Policy and Organizational Studies. Since its inception in 1966, the FSW has developed a national and international reputation for excellence in teaching, research, and practicum instruction.
In September 2006, the Faculty opened its doors at the historic St. Jerome’s College/High School, in the heart of downtown Kitchener just four kilometers from the Waterloo campus. Located at Duke and College Streets, the Laurier FSW Kitchener Campus is a 40,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility, housing seven classrooms (including a unique circular classroom for the MSW Aboriginal Field of Study), computer lab, a 2,000 square foot library, interview-viewing room, a large conference/lecture hall, community meeting space, student lounge, and a spiritual room.
The FSW’s downtown Kitchener location places us in proximity to numerous community agencies, and we enjoy strong partnerships with the social services sector both in research and in practicum opportunities for students. We are governed through a committee structure that includes representation from faculty, students, practicum instructors, and alumni.
We are committed to providing a friendly, respectful, and inclusive learning environment. Whether you are a prospective or current student, practicum instructor, alumnus, or community partner, we hope you find information on the website helpful and we welcome your feedback.
Sincerely,
Nick Coady,
Dean, Lyle S. Hallman Faculty of Social Work
