High School String Symposium

The Laurier Centre for Music in the Community welcomes local High School students who play string instruments (violin, viola, cello, and double bass) for the annual two day invitational High School String Symposium. Coming from five regional schools, selected students will work with guest conductor Ben Bolt-Martin, the Penderecki String Quartet, and senior Laurier music majors.

Begun in 2008, this program enriches the local school orchestras and gives high school students a glimpse of life in the Faculty of Music at Laurier. Dr. Lee Willingham, Director of LCMC said, "Not only are the visiting students enriched by this experience; our music majors develop important leadership skills in addressing the challenges of teaching both technique and repertoire to our neighbouring high school students."

There is a public open rehearsal and performance from 2:30-3:00 pm on Tuesday, February 25, in Maureen Forrester Recital Hall.
