The stories of great Canadian jazz educators: Paul Read
This case study investigated the experience, opinion, and practice of Paul Read, past Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Toronto. Several categories were revealed through the two-tier emergent coding scheme: Readís dual professional role, his inclusive and aural pedagogy, his struggles and success in administration, and his view that change is needed in jazz education. Possible applications for music education are explored.
