MU380e & Arts Express - Creative Arts Camp
A unique collaboration between WLU’s Faculty of Music and KidsAbility Child Development Centre, the Arts Express program combines a university course with a creative arts camp for children with special needs and their friends and siblings. This year, twenty-two students enrolled in MU380e “Creative Arts for Children with Special Needs”, a course that combines theoretical and practical learning in the creative arts and culminates in students’ provision of leadership at the Arts Express camp. Forty-eight children participated in the camp, which concluded with a public performance in the Maureen Forrester Recital Hall. This summer marked the 20th anniversary of the program. In celebration, the Dean of Music hosted a reception, and a documentary about the program’s history and community impact is currently being filmed.
There is potentially of interest for a research project in the coming year surrounding the program’s impact on various aspects of the community.
