Master of Arts

The Department of Communication Studies started its Master of Arts degree in September 2007.  This program is unique in Canada in offering a specialization in visual communication and culture in a communication studies MA.  A second area of emphasis in media, technology and culture, ensures students receive a rigorous foundation in the critical analysis of a wide variety of communication media.

The Communication Studies Department at Wilfrid Laurier University hosts a vibrant, interdisciplinary faculty that will allow students to engage with an array of different subject areas and topics.  The Department's faculty have training and research interests in areas such as communication studies, media studies, political science, English, cultural studies, comparative theory, visual culture, sociology and anthropology.  The result is a lively intellectual community open to new ideas and approaches, providing students with a broad perspective on the political, social, cultural, historical and aesthetic dimensions of communication studies.  Many of us teach or have research connections with other departments in the university, allowing students the opportunity to branch out into areas beyond communication studies.

We are excited about our new master's program, and look forward to welcoming students with inquisitive, critical, and open minds.
