Funded MRP/Thesis Opportunities for Incoming and Future MA Students

Each year I have funding available to support incoming MA students who are willing and interested in writing a MRP or thesis on a topic that aligns with my current research agenda.

In 2011-2012, MA student Megan Gayda wrote an MRP on the intergovernmental relationship between Serpent River First Nation and the city of Elliott Lake, in Northern Ontario. This year, Erin Estok is writing an MRP on Aboriginal self-government and education policy in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region, Northwest Territories. Both students received research support from me to conduct their fieldwork.

Below is a list of current opportunities for incoming and future MA Students in the Canadian Political Studies Stream:

1) I am currently looking for an incoming MA student that is interested in writing a MRP or Thesis on Aboriginal self-government in the Northwest Territories.  In particular, I am willing to provide up to approximately $5000 in RA and field work support to a MA student who wants to write a MRP or thesis on the Inuvialuit Settlement Region and the governance structures that are emerging there.  Interested students should contact me asap with a letter expressing their interest and qualifications.

 2) I am also interested in supporting and supervising incoming MA students that want to write a MRP or Thesis on any aspect of the intergovernmental relationship emerging between Aboriginal and local/regional governments in Canada and in other settler countries.  Interested students should contact me asap with a letter expressing their interest and qualifications.

Students interested in writing an MRP under my supervision should download the following file, which contains expected outline and structure of your MRP (PDF). You should also download my MRP proposal template here (MS-Word File).

As well, I always have a number of research projects "in the bank" that would also make for excellent MRPs so I encourage you to approach me as soon as possible if you are interested in working with me.
