International Graduate Bursaries
|
DEFINITION: a bursary is a monetary gift based on demonstrated financial need and satisfactory academic achievement. Bursaries do not have to be paid back to the university. Students may only receive one bursary assessment per academic year, to an established maximum amount. Bursary assistance for international graduate students is only available during the fall and winter terms; due to extremely limited funding, no bursary assistance is available during the spring and summer terms. Note that the amount of financial assistance available through these bursaries is very small in relation to the total cost of full-time attendance at university. International students must have adequate resources to finance their education apart from any assistance provided by the university. Basic living and education costs are to be met by the student or their sponsor. Applications for these bursaries will be accepted only after registration at Laurier and the commencement of classes. For the 2011/2012 academic year, the application deadline was 4:30 pm, January 16, 2012. Applications are not assessed until after the deadline date. Allocations made under this program are applied directly accounts with the Business Office by March 2012. Note that if granted bursary assistance, funds will not be applied to accounts before tuition for the winter term is due; you are responsible for payment of any late fees. Applicants are assessed based on income and expenses for the period September to April (8 months). Bursary assistance is not available during the spring and summer terms.
