Canadian Excellence

Languages in Canada

Diversity is in all aspects of Canadian life, including languages. Each language is a representation of the world. There are more than 50 Aboriginal languages in Canada, and many more dialects. Efforts are in place to preserve those languages, with their historical and cultural significance.

Canada is officially bilingual a reflection of our Anglophone and Francophone heritage. The recognition of both languages with official status has fostered a culture of understanding and respect towards each other. In turn, this has been essential in accommodating the many different cultures that immigrants have brought and are continuing to bring to Canada.
