As a full time international student, you may participate in a number of different programs which allow you to work on Campus, off campus, and post graduation.  If you intend to work off campus, you must have a work permit and meet the requirements of the program. Do not work without a work permit, if you do, you will be considered in breach of the Immigration Act, and you may have your study permit cancelled.

Working On Campus

You may work on campus at our university without a work permit if:

• you are a full-time student
• you have a valid study permit
• you find an employment (work) at WLU
• you have a valid Social Insurance Number

Working Off Campus

As an international student you can apply for an Off-Campus Work Permit. It allows you to work off campus while completing your studies.

Spousal Work Permits

Your spouse or common-law partner may apply for a work permit if:

• you are a full-time student
• you have a valid study permit or
• you have a valid work permit.

Validity

Work permits for your spouse or common-law partner are valid for the same period of time as your study or work permit.

Note: Your accompanying spouse or common-law partner is eligible for an open work permit, which means they do not need a job offer or a labour market opinion from Service Canada.
