Ethical behaviour in the collection of information from human subjects or participants is an important community and social concern. As a result, Laurier has established a review process for projects initiated by faculty, staff, and or students to collect information from human subjects for administrative purposes (not for research purposes).
A project must first be reviewed by the appropriate Manager of the area. Then the project must be reviewed by the University Secretariat. The University Secretariat may consult with other members of the Laurier community about the project depending on its nature and scope.
This policy does not apply to information which is necessary for the University to collect from individuals for employment, academic, and other administrative purposes.
Existing data bases are subject to privacy protection.

It is recommended that this material be reviewed as background information. Of particular relevance is the Informed Consent Statement Checklist.
In preparing for the research project, please contact the University Secretariat for a copy of established guidelines.
