Medical Insurance for Snowbirds and Extended Travelers
RSA Travel Insurance (formerly known as Expert Travel Financial Security, ETFS) has partnered with Wilfrid Laurier University to offer our employees and retirees an optional "top-up" to the Out-of-Province/Country Emergency Medical Insurance provided under the WLU benefits plan.
How Will This Benefit Employees and Retirees?
Under the WLU benefits plan, employees and retirees have up to 90 days of out-of-province/out-of-country emergency medical insurance per trip. The arrangement with RSA Travle Insurance allows employees and retirees to purchase additional insurance that "tops-up" the WLU plan, extending coverage for up to 90 additional days (180 days in total). In the absence of this arrangement, employees and retirees requiring additional coverage would need to purchase individual coverage from 1st day instead of the 91st day and rates would be based on the total trip duration. There is no age limit and coverage may be applied for either prior to your departure date or between the 80th and 90th day of travel. It is recommended that employees choose to apply for coverage prior to their departure date in case RSA requires additional medical information.
(Note: provincial medical coverage must be maintained while traveling)
