Insurance Benefits



The University provides alleligible full-time employees with the following benefits. Please see your respective collective agreement to determine your eligibility.

Premiums in effect October 1, 2013

Long Term Disability Insurance- $2.342 per $100 of monthly benefit (plus 8% RST)

In the event that you are unable to perform the duties of your job for an extended period of time, Long Term Disability insurance provides you with salary continuance during this period. Employees have 31 days from their hire date to enrol for this coverage. Employee's can still enrol at a later date, with coverage being subject to the insurance provider's approval.

Coverage amount: 60% of the first $1,250 of basic monthly earnings plus 50% of the remaining basic monthly earnings not to exceed the applicable maximum in your benefit booklet.

Premium: 100% Employee paid. This is a non-taxable benefit.

Basic Life Insurance - $0.115 per $1,000 of coverage (plus 8% RST)

Coverage amount: 1.5x an employee's annual salary.

Premiums:100%Universitypaidandare considered ataxable benefit for employees.

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance -$0.017 per $1,000 of coverage (plus 8% RST).

Accidental Death and Dismemberment Insurance provides coverage for certain perils outlined in our policy that occur as a result of an accident. To add Accidental Death & Dismemberment coverage, please submit a Benefits Enrollment/Change Form to Human Resources outlining the amount of coverage you would like to purchase, and beneficiary information.

Coverage amount: Maximum $450,000 (in increments of $10,000)

Premiums: 100% employee paid.

Voluntary/Optional Life Insurance

Voluntary/OptionalLife Insurance benefits are an optional benefit and are subject to the insurance provider's approval. To apply for Voluntary/Optional Life Insurance coverage, pleasesubmit anEvidence of Insurability Form directly to the insurance provider (address listed on the form)anda Beneficiary Designation Form to Human Resources to keep on file. You will be notified once your coverage has been approved.

Coverage amount: Maximum $500,000 (in increments of $10,000)

Premiums: 100% employee paid

You are responsible for the payment of the monthlypremiums (plus 8% Retail Sales Tax). The premium rates per $1,000 of benefit are:
