WLUSA Research Grant Payroll Forms



Below are four (4) categories of hiring of office, clerical and technical positions under research grants governed by the Letter of Understanding between WLUSA and the University.

Definition of Student: All persons registered as graduate or undergraduate students at Wilfrid Laurier University.  Student employees performing office, clerical or technical work who have completed their final year's course work at Wilfrid Laurier University will be subject to inclusion in the WLUSA bargaining unit and the rules and regulations governing that collective agreement. 

Students registered at another institution that will be performing office, clerical or technical work for research at Wilfrid Laurier University please refer to the Letter of Understanding between WLU and WLUSA to determine the category of hiring as they will be subject to inclusion in the WLUSA bargaining unit.

Former students who have completed all the requirements for their program at Wilfrid Laurier University cannot continue to be employed as students or students who have decided to terminate their studies.  These students must be hired according to one of the options outlined in detail below.


Category #1 Casual Positions

Casual positions are employees that work 105 hours or less within a 3 week period and are exempt from the WLUSA bargaining unit.

Payroll Forms:

a) Complete the HR Temporary Hiring Online Form

b) An hourly timesheet must be submitted for these employees

 

Category #2 Temporary Positions

Temporary positions of 26 weeks or less fall within the WLUSA bargaining unit but are exempt from many provisions as per appendix E of the WLUSA Collective Agreement.  These positions must be paid a minimum of Grade Level 1, Step 1.  Please review the WLUSA salary grid to determine the hourly rate. 

Payroll Forms:

a) Complete the HR Temporary Hiring Online Form

b) A bi-weekly timesheet must be submitted for this type of assignment

 

Category #3 Limited-term Positions

Limited-term positions greater than six (6) months but less than two (2) years fall within and are subject to posting provisions and are graded as per the WLUSA Job Evaluation System.

Category #4 Continuing Positions

All positions greater than 24 months (whether or not on the same grant) will be continuing positions under the WLUSA bargaining unit and subject to all provisions of the provisions of the collective agreement.
