Welcome to the website for EC223 (Section B, E, & F) Winter 2014!

Announcements

Jan 15, 2014

Due to my illness, I have to cancel tomorrow's (Jan 16) EC223 (Section B, E & F) class. I am sorry for any inconvenience resulting from this last minute class cancellation.

Feb 19, 2014

Midterm exam will be held on Feb 25 (Tuesday) in class. As I mentioned in the class on Feb 13, midterm exam will cover Ch 2, Ch 3, Ch 4, Ch 5, and part of Ch 6 of the textbook (4th or 5th ed.). Midterm exam will cover only page 112 to page 118 (up to the beginning to the topic - "Term Structure of Interest Rates") of Chapter 6 of  the 5th ed. of the textbook. If you are using 4th ed. of the textbook please note that exam will cover only page 113 to page 119 (up to the beginning to the topic - "Term Structure of Interest Rates") of Chapter 6 of the 4th ed. of the textbook.

Midterm exam will be 1 hour and 15 minutes long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: Twenty multiple choice questions     20*1 = 20 marks

Part B: Five problem solving/analytical questions 5*6 = 30 marks

To prepare for the exam I strongly recommend you to work out the optional assignments (1, 2 and 3) which are posted on the course website and the MyEconLab required assignments (1,2, 3 and 4) which are posted on the MyEconLab site.

You should also study the textbook chapters and your class lecture notes carefully. In particular, you should make sure that you understand all the models and its graphical explanations, and you can solve the problems which are worked out for you in the 'Application' section of the textbook.

Please bring pen, pencil and non-programmable regular/financial calculator to write your exam. You may have to use a financial calculator to answer few multiple choice questions.

I will be holding extra office hours on Feb 24 (Monday) from 2:00 to 3:15 pm. I will also hold my regular office hours on Feb 25 (Tuesday) from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Oct 25 (Tuesday). Please feel free to stop by my office (P2045) during these office hours if you have any question.

Feb 24, 2014

Due to some unavoidable circumstances, I have to make some changes to my tomorrow's  (Tuesday) regular office hours.  I will hold my office hours tomorrow (Tuesday) from 12:00 to 1:00 pm instead of 10:00 am to 11:00 am. I am sorry for any inconvenience resulting from this change in office hours.

I am holding office hours today (Monday) from 2:00 to 3:15 pm.

If you have any question, please feel free to stop by my office (P2045) during these above mentioned office hours.

April 6, 2014

Final exam will be held  on April 10 (Thursday) from 8:30 am to 11:00 am in AC. As I mentioned in last class on April 3, final exam will cover Ch 2, Ch 3, Ch 4, Ch 5, Ch 6, Ch 7, Ch 13, Ch 16, and a part of Ch 17 of the textbook (4th or 5th ed.). If you are using 4th ed. of the textbook, please note that exam will cover only page 431 to page 443 (up to the beginning to the topic - "Open Market Operations") of Chapter 17 of the 4th ed. of the textbook. Please note that final exam will NOT cover Ch 15 and Ch 19 of the textbook (4th or 5th ed.).

Final exam will be 2 hours and 30 minutes long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: Fifty multiple choice questions     50*1 = 50 marks

Part B: Five problem solving/analytical questions 5*6 = 30 marks

To prepare for the exam I strongly recommend you to work out all optional assignments (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) which are posted on the course website and the MyEconLab required assignments (1,2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8) which are posted on the MyEconLab site.

Please note that I am NOT going to say anything about the distribution of final exam questions over the final exam materials. You have to be prepared for all materials to do well in the final exam.

Please bring pen, pencil and non-programmable regular/financial calculator to write your exam. You may have to use a financial calculator to answer few multiple choice questions.

Please note that I will NOT hold my regular office hours on April 8 (Tuesday). Instead, I will hold exam-week office hours on April 9 (Wednesday) from 1:15 to 3:15 pm. Please feel free to stop by my office (P2045) during these office hours if you have any question. You can also pick up your midterm exam if you have not already done so during these office hours.

Good luck with your exams!
