EC 238 Fall 2012



Welcome to the website for EC238 A & B Fall 2012!



ANNOUNCEMENTS

October 13 

Midterm exam will be held in class on October 18 (Thursday). As I mentioned in the class on October 11, midterm exam will cover Ch 1 to Ch 6, inclusive, of the textbook (4th or 5th edition). Exam will be 1 hour and 10 minutes long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: 2 out of 2 'True/False/Uncertain with explanation' type questions or short questions  5 * 2 = 10 marks  

Part B: 2 out of 2 multi-part problem solving questions  30 marks

To prepare for the exam, I strongly recommend you to work out  the optional assignments (1, 2, 3 and 4) which are posted on the website. You should also study the textbook and go through the lecture slides and your class lecture notes carefully.  In particular, you should make sure that you understand all of the models with a graphical explanation.

Please note that you must write your exam in the Section for which you are registered. If you are registered for Section A, you must write you exam in Section A (1:00 pm to 2:10 pm). If you are registered for Section B, you must write your exam in Section B (2:30 pm to 3: 40 pm).

You will need a pen, pencil, and non-programmable calculator to write this exam. You can draw the diagrams with a pencil. But you must the write your answers to the exam questions, excluding the diagrams, with a pen.

November 3

I posted midterm exam marks on the course website. You can find your marks by looking for the last 5 digits of your student ID. I will return the marked exams in class on Nov 6 (Tuesday).

November 30

Final exam will be held in AC from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm on Dec 6 (Thursday).

As I announced in last class, final exam will cover Ch 1 to Ch 13, inclusive, Chapter 18,  and Ch 20  of the textbook ( 4th or 5th edition). Exam will be 2 hours and 30 minutes long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: THREE  'True/False/Uncertain with explanation' type questions or short questions  3 * 5 = 15   marks 

Part B: THREE multi-part problem solving questions  3* 20 = 60 marks

To prepare for the exam, I strongly recommend you to work out  the optional assignments (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6) which are posted on the website. You should go through the solutions to the optional assignments and midterm exam. You should study the textbook and go through the lecture slides and your class lecture notes carefully.  In particular, you should make sure that you understand all of the models with a graphical explanation.

I am holding exam-week office hours as per the following schedule: 

December 4 (Tuesday) 3:00 to 5:00 pm

December 6 (Thursday) 2:00 to 4:00 pm

December 13 (Thursday) 3:00 to 5:00 pm
