ANNOUNCEMENTS

Oct 22, 2009

Midterm exam will be held in class on October 26. For both sections of the course, the exam will cover Ch 1 to Ch 4 and only Pages  71-81 of Ch 5 (5th edition).  Note for Section B students: I reduced the exam materials from Ch 5 by 1 page!

Exam will be 1 hour and 10 minutes long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: 25 multiple choice questions     2*25 = 50 marks

Part B: 6  Short questions or Problem Solving Questions 6*5 = 30 marks

To prepare for the exam I srongly recommend you go though your lecture notes and to work out the end-of-chapter 'Problems' and 'Discussion Questions' of Ch 1 to 5. Solutions to the end-of-chapter questions  are posted on the course website. Questions in Part B of the exam will be similar to these questions. However, some of the Part B questions can also be based on numerical examples and mathematical derviations which I covered during lectures. To prepare for Part A of the exam, I recommend you to read the textbook carefully and to go though your lecture notes.  You should also work out the sample mutiple choice questions which are posted on the course website.

For the midterm exam preparation you can ignore the the end-of-chapter 'Problems' and 'Discussion Questions' which are based on the materials that are NOT covered in the midterm exam. For example, for the midterm exam you do NOT have to do the following questions from Ch 5: the end-of-chapter 'Problems' - 5, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 19; the end-of-chapter 'Discussion Questions' - 3, 5, 6 and 7; sample multiple choce questions posted on the website- 11.

Dec 9, 2009

Exam will cover Chapter 1 to Chapter 8, inclusive, Section 13.1 and 13.2 (pages 236-251) of Chapter 13 and Section 17.1 (pages 325 -334) of Chapter 17 from the textbook (5th edition).  However, please note that Economics Focus 13.1 (pages 248-249) will NOT be covered in the exam.

Exam will be 3 hours long. It will have the following two parts:

Part A: 50 multiple choice questions     50*1.5 = 75 marks

Part B: 5 Short questions or Problem Solving Questions 5*5 = 25 marks

To prepare for the exam I strongly recommend you go though your lecture notes and to work out the end-of-chapter 'Problems' and 'Discussion Questions'. Solutions to the end-of-chapter questions  are posted on the course website. Questions in Part B of the exam will be similar to these questions. However, some of the Part B questions can also be based on numerical examples and mathematical derivations which I covered during lectures. To prepare for Part A of the exam, I recommend you to read the textbook carefully and to go through your lecture notes.  You should work out the sample multiple choice questions which are posted on the course website. You should also go through the solutions to the midterm exam which is posted on the course website. You should make sure that you understand all of the models with a graphical explanation.
