SP200*: Study Abroad
SP200*: Study Abroad is an annual spring course and all-inclusive, international immersion experience in a Spanish-speaking country. This 1.0-credit course is led by a Laurier faculty member and lasts approximately 4 weeks. At the destination abroad, the target language immersion experience incorporates all the essential areas of Spanish language learning. Activities in class are designed to sharpen vocabulary, grammar, speaking, and reading skills. Fluency and listening comprehension are further developed through constant interaction in Spanish not only in the classroom but also through host families, community members, and cultural immersion. An understanding of the target culture is obtained during extracurricular guided tours and day trips which also complement themes learned in and out of the classroom.
The SP200 package includes: round-trip international airfare, transportation and airport transfers abroad, textbook and academic materials; mandatory international student health insurance; homestay with Spanish-speaking families including 3 meals per day, linens (bedding and towels), and laundry service (for a small fee); all hotel accommodations, guided tours and entrance tickets to all excursions and day trips including most meals; cultural activities and conversational practice with native Spanish speakers; and visits to over a dozen towns.
