Research: Psycholinguistics and Language Acquisition Lab
Located in 415 Bricker Academic Building, the Psycholinguistics and Language Acquisition Research Laboratory—also known as "The Red Lab"—is where research is conducted to explore the cognitive processes that support the acquisition and use of non-native languages. Broadly speaking, the research investigated in this lab looks at how multilingual speakers manage to speak in one language without massive intrusions from their other languages and how adult language learners access, process, and acquire words—and language in general. The data collection procedures employed in the laboratory make use of computerized psychological and cognitive tasks under controlled experimental conditions in order to evaluate the mental processes underpinning speech and language acquisition. Additional studies have also been conducted in socio-cultural linguistics and language teaching and learning.
