Dr. Quincy Almeida
Laurier Movement Disorder Research & Rehabilitation Centre (MDRC), Director,

Upper and lower limb motor control and exercise rehabilitation in Parkinson’s disease. Dr. Almeida has experience designing and implementing an exercise rehabilitation program for Parkinson’s disease at St. Peter’s Hospital in Hamilton between 1998 and 2000. Previous research has focused on the potential interactions between the proprioceptive system and the basal ganglia and how a proprioceptive-based exercise program may help access alternate neural pathways for movement control. Dr. Almeida has developed collaborative relationships with the Research Institute for Ageing (University of Waterloo); Ageing, Rehabilitation and Geriatric Care Centre (University of Western Ontario/Parkwood Hospital); YMCA Canada; and the Parkinson’s Society of Canada. Dr. Almeida has presented three provincial/national keynote
Research Services Recommendation - 14 - Senate May 30, 2007 addresses representing the MDRC, and was a keynote speaker at the Congress on Motor Behaviour in Brazil in December 2006.
