What is an Authorization Code?
An authorization code permits a call to be charged back to the user’s extension, regardless of the on-campus location of the long distance call. Even if a user’s phone has long distance calling capability, it may be beneficial to have an authorization code if the user frequently places long distance calls from a location other than his or her office. With an authorization code, the user is assured no matter where the call is placed, the charges will appear against his/her office extension.
For security reasons, an authorization code should not be distributed among employees or colleagues. In addition, an authorization code should be deleted upon employee termination or department transfer.
All incurred long distance telephone charges are the responsibility of the employee and/or the department. ITS sends notification of monthly long distance charges to users and/or department administrative personnel. Charges are billed to each department through Banner. ITS does not assume financial responsibility for disputed long distance calls.
Once the authorization code for an applicant is issued, registered and signed for, it will remain active until Information Technology Services (ITS) is directed to remove the code from the system.
How do I Request an Authorization Code?
An employee may request the use of an authorization code by submitting an on-line application form to ITS. When the code has been issued, ITS will contact the applicant to schedule an appointment for pickup. It is the responsibility of the applicant to be familiar with the procedure and responsibilities associated with the use of an authorization code. Authorization codes will not be e-mailed to individuals.
How Do I Cancel an Authorization Code?
An employee may cancel an authorization code by submitting an on-line cancellation form to ITS. A request may also be e-mailed to Debra Allan at email@example.com
How do I Use an Authorization Code?
In order to activate the Authorization Code feature, please follow the steps below:
A) Remove the phone receiver from the cradle.
B) Enter the SPRE Code (actual number is 16)
C) Enter the AUTH Code. If you are an authorized user with a valid code you will then receive dial tone.
D) Dial 9 followed by 1, followed by the area code and the number you wish to dial.
Example: SPRE Code + Auth Code + 9 + 1 + Area Code + Actual Number
Example: 16 + Auth Code + 9 + 1 + Area Code + Actual Number
