Ambassador Profile - Ashley
My Laurier Brantford Experience
Hi! My name is Ashley Donsberger and I will am very excited to be a returning Ambassador for Laurier Brantford next year! I know how challenging it can be to choose the right university and hopefully through sharing my experiences I can open your eyes to the way of life here at Laurier Brantford.
I am in my 5th and final year of Concurrent Education and am pursuing an Honours Degree in Contemporary Studies, an Honours in English and a minor in Criminology.
I am quite involved here on campus and enjoy actively volunteering at the school and in the community. Throughout my past 4 years here I have been involved in the Brantford Residence Council, Laurier Students for Literacy, Orientation Week, Headstart, East Meets West, Hiring Committee, Note-Taking and the Laurier Brantford Rainbow Alliance. Last year along with being an Ambassador I was also the Coordinator for Campus Clubs for the school helping to support over 18 different clubs. This school year I am also on Senate and will be working to provide a student voice on various university decisions. I love getting involved on campus because it lets me meet so many wonderful people and helps me give back to the school while learning lots of new things.
I am originally from Brampton, Ontario but now live in Brantford all year round. It was quite a change for me to move from such a big city to Brantford but now I consider Brantford my home. I still remember how scary it was to leave my hometown and all of my friends after high school not knowing what I was getting myself into. After being here for a few days, with the help of my Don, new roommates and a great Orientation Week I began to feel right at home. Laurier Brantford is a smaller school with about 2500 students and because of that you are always bumping into people you know and meeting new friends. Class sizes are smaller here compared to other universities and I found this very helpful when transitioning to university because it allowed for a lot of discussion and one-on-one time with professors.
Living in Residence my first year has been on of my favourite experiences so far. It was neat to meet so many different people and I learned a lot more than I thought I would! Some of the best times were just hanging out, watching movies and making meals together. It really is a special place where lasting friendships are created and I still live with many of the people from my residence now. I have met many friends here at Laurier Brantford and have thoroughly enjoyed my experiences. I truly don’t think I would have been happier anywhere else!
I wish you the best of luck in making your decision and I’m here if you need anything. If I can help you with any questions or concerns about Laurier Brantford please feel free to e-mail me at adonsberger@wlu.ca.
