My Laurier Brantford Experience
Hi! My name is Alicia Appleby and I am entering my 3rd year of the Concurrent Education Primary Junior program here on the Brantford campus! I have had an amazing experience so far and look forward to more memories. I have been very involved throughout campus with residence, student life, Students Union and on-campus jobs.
My first experience at Laurier Brantford was at a summer conference called LEAP. At this conference I was able to meet many new friends and learn about all the opportunities Laurier Brantford has to offer me. From there I participated in O-Week which was the best week of my life! I was able to get accustomed to the campus and meet even more amazing friends.
Moving from a small town to the larger city of Brantford was overwhelming but Laurier Brantford made me feel comfortable! I lived in Post House 3 which was the Concurrent Education community. This experience was amazing because I was able to meet people in my program and classes. We were able to share ideas for projects and study for exams together. My don was also a great mentor to me and helped and supported me in everything I did. I was also part of Brantford Residence Council (BRC) which planned amazing events for the entire residence community! Residence provided me with a great opportunity to get involved and meet people.
I have also been involved with the Students Union (WLUSU) and was a part of Laurier Students for Literacy, Hawk Team and recruitment and promotions! All of these have provided me with experience and transferable skills to help me after graduation. Within the Students Union there is something for everyone! I am excited to represent Laurier Brantford as a director on the Board this year!
I love that at Laurier Brantford you are not a number you are a person! There are many opportunities for students to get involved as well as on campus jobs! I am lucky enough to be employed as an Ambassador, U-Desk Associate and a cashier at Stedman Community bookstore. I love the large numbers of volunteer positions and on campus jobs available to students! The small classes allow you to work one on one with your professor and get the personal help you need! Laurier Brantford offers any many services to help people succeed! I love Laurier Brantford and would never change a thing!!
