TECs Focus on Glocal Issues
The Faculty of Education Glocal initiative was busy this year. Glocal provides an opportunity for TECs to explore global and local issues of social justice. Twenty TECs took part in a variety of activities including We Day Waterloo, an Aboriginal learning styles workshop, Ride for Refuge, a discussion on curriculum connections for global education, sending school supplies to Haiti, and a fund-raiser selling chapattis and samosas (chefs Poonam Sidhu and Shemira Sheriff pictured below) to support the families of Peruvian immigrant workers killed in an accident near Kitchener.
TECs involved with Glocal will be organizing Unity Games in a number of local schools following their final practicum. Children will participate in activities and games centered around cooperation and developing positive interpersonal skills.
